We didn't start this fight, but by the Gods we're going to finish it!
-- Sgt.Maj of the VDF Centchu Granz
The Vaspo Defence Forces are a paramilitary organization deeply rooted in the island of Ireland that are known as neutral to all others.
The VDF run by a simple modus operandi of not getting involved in other affairs that don't concern them, such as world politics, conflicts, or alliances.
Towards the end of the 1960s, the island of Ireland saw the build up and eventual spillover of violence between the Irish Republican Army and the forces loyal to the British crown which lasted roughly 30 years.
At the outset, the troubles were mostly confined to the Northern Ireland section of the island and the surrounding areas, and stayed this way for the majority of the conflict as the fighting was meant to remove the crown's power as the ruling party of NI by some accounts.
It is unknown exactly when the individual known as Vanse Vaspo appeared into the conflict, or what his loyalties were - to crown or to the IRA - but what was certain is that he rallied others behind him with his charismatic charm and tactical knowledge.
Some called him a con-man as he appeared into the playing field in 1972, and said that he was just there to make himself ruler of the Irish island, but those who opposed him usually quieted down in various ways, whether they be unfortunate accidents or having their opinions reversed. Some cried foul, but Vaspo had by this point established enough influence in the region to form his own military organization in 1975 as the Vaspo Security Consulting Group.
The VSCG played themselves as a contractor publicly, but behind the scenes they were merely accumulating a large fortune in hardware and technology, as well as man power through contracts with soldiers from around the world.
Becoming the VDF
In 1996, towards the end of the Troubles, the VSCG reformed itself as the Vaspo Defence Forces, and publicly declared that they would protect all individuals on the island of Ireland from outside invasion and conflicts.
Vanse Vaspo himself has not been seen since late-August 2001 before the events of 9/11, when he appeared before the public at a press conference declaring that his promise from half a decade before still stood that his company would protect Ireland from outside invaders.
The VDF follows a vaguely American-style command hierarchy, with many of the ranks bearing the same names.
The enlisted and the command officers each have their own hierarchy to follow, but a soldier can not become an officer until they have passed the rank of Lance Corporal and have at least 4 years of experience in the organization.
This results in a command structure who knows field conditions and what it is like for their soldiers on the ground, leading to greater mutual respect between them as even the Colonels and Generals were Privates at one point.
The VDF follows the same formation of squads and fireteams as the US armed forces, with 4 soldiers to a fireteam, and two fireteams to a squad. Occasionally there may be less or more per-squad or fireteam depending on the circumstances.
The VDF use a small, but select group of weapons in their arsenal. The callibres of the weaponry are limited to only a few battle-proven types of ammunition. The known public list includes:
- M416 5.56x45mm Assault Carbine
- M417 7.62x51mm Designated Marksman Rifle
